Give us a very brief summary of how you started, what your influences were and how you got to where you are.
My dad started taking me surfing with him on the front of his board when I was three years old. I got my first surfboard when I was five. It was a fluorescent yellow 'Straight Up' with splatters all over. It was 6'2, a hand me down from my parents. I began competing when I was 10 and throughout high school. By my junior year I began travelling and modelling full time. That took priority and I quit competing. Competing was never something I saw myself doing after high school. I wanted to be doing something in the creative realm. Eventually everything sorta morphed together and now I get to surf, travel, model, act and be creative. I feel extremely blessed.
Where is your ideal place to surf?
I love surfing in Indonesia. Bali is incredible and when the waves are not so good, there is still many other things to do.

What led you to become involved in SurfAid?
I got involved with SurfAid through Billabong. Billabong has been partnering with SurfAid on different issues. Design For Humanity is something Billabong developed specifically for outreach into different issues within the surfing community. We all feel it's our duty to give back in whatever way possible to this beautiful world and its people who are hurting. We can all do something. I believe there is no gesture too great or too small. A simple smile can bring light into a persons day.
Why should kids get involved in SurfAid?
If we are in a position where we can help, if we have extra cash or time to give; then we should do so. If everyone contributes even a little bit, it will add up. No matter how much, one dollar, $10, $20, $100, $1000.... Whatever you can do. What matters most is that we do something and don't just sit around in our comfy, cosy lives with all of the abundance God has blessed us with and not give back in some way.

I started when I was a baby. My dad would push me into waves. My biggest influences growing up were Andy and Bruce Irons. I competed in Hawaii, won five state titles. Went on to nationals, and then took 3rd in the World Amature Titles. I joined the ASP Pro as soon as I got out of high school and have been competing on the WCT tour for the last eight or nine years.

I started going to the beach when I was very young with my family. All our free time was spent at the beach hunting for shells, swimming, or surfing. Surf movies and surf magazines clutter our home. Even though I live inland the beaches and oceans are my home too. With the support of my family and sponsors I’ve been able to compete and travel around the world. They have made it possible for me to go after my dreams and goals.

Where is your ideal place to surf?
My ideal place to surf would be without crowds, in remote locations, with family and friends, and perfect waves. I don’t think I’ve discovered this location yet.

Why should kids get involved in SurfAid?
Give one or more positive reasons – how just a small amount of money or effort makes a big difference.
It’s a great thing to become involved in something that can make the world and the lives of others around the world healthier and safer. It’s important to do what you can either by a donation of money and/or your time. If everyone did a little bit, together our efforts will make a big difference for the lives of many around the world. Everyday in America many people buy and enjoy their cups of coffee. The cost of a few cups of coffee would cover the cost of a mosquito net which could save the lives of a family of 4 for many years!

I grew up on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland and then moved to the Goldy (Gold Coast) when I was a grom. I grew up surfing DBah, Snapper and Kirra pretty much everyday. I was your typical frothing grommet.
Where is your ideal place to surf?
Anything with a good hollow barrel and a nice wall. You can't beat old Kirra, the way it used to be. I have had some of the best sessions of my life out there. J-Bay would have to be one of my favourites as well.

I live on the Tweed River now. I have a wicked boat shed with a good fishing boat and a jet ski in it. If I'm not surfing I'm out in the boat fishing with a few of the local boys. If the surf is good, I can just jump on my ski; fly down the river and in five minutes I'm surfing D-Bah.
What led you to become involved in SurfAid?
Billabong have been supporting SurfAid for a long time and I have heard about all the good work that they have been doing, especially up in Indonesia.
Why should kids get involved in SurfAid?
I think I have been lucky to travel to the places that SurfAid has been working and being a father, I'd like to think my kids will be able to go up there and enjoy it one day as well. Surfing is the best thing you can do, so get involved with SurfAid and lend a hand!

I love surfing the breaks around my home at Yallingup. We have this mad right hander out the front of my house that gets amazing. I also love the Mentawaiis. HT’s and Macaroni’s are a dream come true.

My favourite food in the world is Sushi.
What led you to become involved in SurfAid?
SurfAid has been getting a lot of coverage in the US surf mags and I have been to Indo a heap of times. I have heard about them through Billabong as well. What they are doing is super important. I’m backing them for sure.
Why should kids get involved in SurfAid?
Kids need to make up their own mind, get to Indo and see how sick the waves are. Then you will know how important the work SurfAid is doing for the local communities up there. The people are super friendly all over the islands. A few of the kids are starting to rip up there as well.
