The SurfAid Schools Program held a T-shirt design competition in January and February 2009 for all registered students, teachers and schools in Australia.Students were asked to design a T-shirt that captured both the theme of the Billabong Girls Design For Humanity (DFH) cause and the mission of the Schools Program.Design For Humanity is Billabong’s international charitable division that seeks to generate funds from special events and the sale of limited edition products to donate to humanitarian and environmental causes.DFH operates under Billabong’s philosophy of “be the change you want in the world”.
Students were encouraged to let their designs be inspired by words like learn, travel, share, one, act, surf, citizen, global, and community.The top two designs received Billabong gear packs worth $250 each.
The first and second place winners were Year 8 students from Scots College, a Sydney boy’s school.Lachlan Ellison (right) won first prize while classmate James Manns (left) came in a close second.Our team would like to give a big THANKS to every student who submitted artwork!To view Lachlan’s and James’ designs click below:
